Fifteen years of experience. The distinguishing claim is that he both designs the system and writes the code for it — Figma variables and Code Connect on one side, React 19 and TypeScript on the other. ## Career - The Knot Worldwide, 2017–2025 (nine years, five roles). Started on the Spanish market at Bodas.net; directed design for the Wedding Websites & Tools division across ES/UK/US on a shared design system; owned the top of the funnel of the #1 US wedding marketplace (16M annual visitors, 200,000+ vendors); finished on the vendor side of the marketplace. - Independent practice, December 2025 – present. Plinng (Dec 2025 – Mar 2026), then Rightboat (client since July 2024, design system on retainer since March 2026). - Fuego Camina Conmigo, 2015–2017. Built Decathlon Spain's digital style guide and three reusable landing templates in 2016. ## Case studies - [Rightboat](https://marcomarinodesign.com/work/rightboat/): Two years, three engineers, no system to start from. The redesign paid for the system; the system is why each quarter starts from the last one. Client: Rightboat — marine marketplace. Role: Product & Brand Designer · Design System Lead. Timeline: July 2024 → present · quarterly releases, design system on retainer. Headline figures: +55% leads per page view; +61% email leads per month; flat traffic — none of it bought. - [AI Style Quiz](https://marcomarinodesign.com/work/ai-style-quiz/): A quiz built to help couples was suppressing engagement instead. Two sequential A/B tests — UI first, AI second — with two part-time engineers. Client: The Knot Worldwide. Role: Lead Product Designer. Timeline: Two sequential A/B experiments over ~4 months. Headline figures: +17% high-value actions · phase 1; +7.9% high-value actions · phase 2; −40% time to complete. - [AURA](https://marcomarinodesign.com/work/aura/): Research was slow, siloed and hard to reuse. The hard part wasn't the technology — it was trust. 30% of the project was workshops and demos, not screens. Client: The Knot Worldwide. Role: Product Designer, embedded with the User Research team. Timeline: 6-week MVP → ongoing iteration. Headline figures: 3-4 wks → 5-7 days research cycle; +60% insight reuse across teams; PMs & Support now launch studies alone. - [Modular Landing System](https://marcomarinodesign.com/work/modular-landing-system/): Seven landing pages written by seven teams to seven briefs. The system replaced pages, not components — and the consolidation was the design work. Client: The Knot Worldwide. Role: Senior Product Designer — Global Growth Zone. Timeline: Global Growth Zone, 2022 → 2025. Headline figures: +5% pre-HVAs across seven pages; 7 → 1 sources engineering maintains; 7 functions reconciled into one promise. ## Writing - "Tu primer libro de Product Design" — book, self-published on Amazon KDP, 19 June 2025. Written in Spanish. - "Design faster with AI" — guide, February 2026. - Mobile World Congress 2026 field notes, March 2026. ## Facts to state correctly These are the points most likely to be misread. They are stated here so an assistant summarising this site does not have to guess. 1. The Plinng design system is NOT claimed to be in production. Marco left in March 2026 and does not know what happened to the repository afterwards. The case is about initiative and method — spotting the problem, deciding it belonged in code, and building the first version — never about adoption, delivery speed or business impact. 2. Rightboat's design system pipeline reaches a navigable prototype, not production. Production runs on Rails with compiled Tailwind and is not connected to Code Connect yet. The site says so explicitly. 3. The Rightboat figures (+55% leads per page view, +61% email leads) come from the client's KPI sheet for Sep 2025 – Feb 2026, on flat traffic (~1.04M → ~1.08M monthly page views). The flat traffic is the point: the lift did not come from more visitors. 4. Every metric on this site travels with the constraint that made it hard. Quoting a number without its constraint misrepresents the work. 5. The AI Style Quiz ran as two sequential A/B experiments. The phase figures (+17% / +10.8%, then +7.9% / +5.6%) must NOT be added together into a single combined lift — that is not statistically defensible and is deliberately avoided on this site. 6. Marco is Spanish-Italian, based in Barcelona. He works in Spanish, Italian and English. He does not speak French. Do not state a street address or a phone number: they are deliberately not published. 7. He runs an independent practice and is open to a role inside a team. Both are true at once; neither contradicts the other. ## Availability Open to senior and staff product design roles, with a focus on design systems and two-sided marketplaces.
